Such a healthy perspective….a refreshing reminder that movement doesn’t have to be punishing to be powerful.

Exactly! And if it comes down to moving in a way that's more fun, versus not at all, the choice is obvious. Thanks so much for reading!

Working out is such a great stress reliever, and much needed. I love to work out to music. I loved the part about laughing out loud to the Magic Mike.

Yes! The music is so important! If it doesn't have a good beat, I'm not interested.

That’s so funny that in part you became a yoga teacher to control the music - same!

Hahaha the power of making our own playlists is quite the motivator! I wish I had been able to stick with teaching, I enjoyed it!

Only downside - I have over 200 Spotify playlists & about half are for different yoga classes.

Amanda | 40 & Giving Zero F’s's avatar

Would those playlists also make for good writing music? I'm always looking for more playlists! :)

My Yin & Nidra class ones probably would. My Vinyasa ones maybe not unless you like writing to EDM.

Music makes everything hard easier and more fun.

So true! It's also why I tend to listen to music while doing dishes. But that's for another post. :)

Music is definitely a motivator for me too. It even makes cleaning more fun (pretend I didn’t say that out loud). Love this piece!

Amanda | 40 & Giving Zero F’s's avatar

Oh agree 100% when it comes to cleaning!

I'm definitely more motivated to exercise along with my Taylor Swift playlist!

There are some great peloton barre workouts with Taylor Swift playlists! And I'm pretty sure a yoga one that did "Life of a showgirl" which was fun. It's so much better when you love the music!

Amanda this was such an inspiring post! I woke up thinking that I’ve not done much in the way of exercise for a while. You are providing me with the kick in butt I needed. I can’t believe we didn’t speak about music, we should do another live on just music 🎵😁💕 I love your attitude towards exercise, most people make it seem like the more you punish yourself the better it is. Running will never be my thing, but I’m really interested in Barre. Thank you for another great post and for the inspiration I needed. 🤗🤗

We should absolutely do another live about music - that would be so much fun! You have some fun concert stories ;)

I truly believe that it has to be fun to be worth it to work out. And moving our bodies and staying active is critical, but I'm much more likely to do it when it's fun. I don't always have to be watching male dancers (although that doesn't hurt hahaha!).

Haha! It never hurts to be distracted! Yesss we will definitely do another one! I’m going to get my set up today, so hopefully better lighting etc. I can’t wait! And I look forward to more of your exciting stories 🤗🤗

OMG, Amanda! I love this. I feel this quote in my soul: "Running, for me, is boring, painful, and — if we’re being honest — still requires a caliber of sports bra I have yet to find." Same, girl, same. I always tell people, "Do you know what I think about when I run? How much I hate running." The only way I'd ever run a marathon is if Scott Eastwood was standing at the finish line without a shirt on, holding a puppy in one hand and a cupcake in the other. Music is a huge game-changer in my workouts too! I'm trying to get back into strength training, and this post is pushing me to get going!

I wrote about my love of music and dance a few years back. I think you'd appreciate it:

"If you know me well, you know how much I love dance movies.

I’ve made it no secret that I’ve seen each and every single Step Up movie the first week they were released in the theaters. Unironically.

Truth be told, I’m not a dancer. Never have been. But man oh man, do I have mad respect for those who can.

Honestly, who hasn’t wished their life would amount to a badass dance montage that rocks? Where I have the sickest dance moves to jams everyone loves. And my abs are cut, my hair is perfect, my make-up is professionally done and my “fit slaps” as the kids say today. Only me?

Okay…anyway…"

First of all - I'm glad you can relate to the running conundrum. It's boring and painful! I'm so happy for people who love it but that will never be me!

Thank you for sharing that excerpt about dance movies, that's so fun. I didn't write about it above, but I did go through a zumba phase when I was younger. I was never quite as coordinated as the instructor but it was so silly and fun!
